Solar Panel Cleaning

Regular Solar Panel cleaning is beneficial for 3 key reasons.

It restores efficiency of your solar panels up to 30% (even the "Self Cleaning Panels") . In monetary value this works out as up to £50 per kW so if you have a 10kW array that's up to £500 extra each year. These savings are greatly increased for a commercial array. This is because birds mess, dirt and pollution settle on the panels and this reduces the panels ability to absorb energy. The cost of cleaning your panels is usually far less than the savings you can expect to achieve.

It prevents permanent damage. Well-maintained solar panels can last beyond 25 years. However, the actual lifespan of solar panels can be reduced to 15 years or even less, due to neglect in maintenance. For instance, a hot spot is one main killer of solar panels, which can be caused by the accumulation of debris, such as dust, dirt, sands, water spots, and leaves, on the panel surface. When a portion of the panel is shaded, the shaded cells can act as resistors, hindering the normal flow of current and resulting in localized overheating, creating a hot spot. Areas that become hot spots are no longer able to generate energy. Moreover, a hot spot is particularly damaging to solar panels because it’s permanent and inreversable. Therefore, the best way to deal with hot spots is through preemptive approaches, such as frequent cleaning and maintenance.

It Maintains warranty. Most manufacturers require your solar panels to be cleaned annually to maintain your warranty. Incorrect cleaning such as with high pressure, tap water, abrasives and incorrect chemicals will potentially damage the panel & void your warranty.
